It all started in 2012 in the center of Zagreb when father and son, Mimi and Vanja Rakočević founded Brand Paravan at Preradovićeva 26, guided by instinct and a constant search for beauty. Their wish then, just as it is today, was to offer Zagreb a place of inspiration, good vibes and beautiful things that exude taste, simplicity and elegance. A haven of finesse in today's rough and fast world.
Mimi Rakočević, great enthusiast, esthete and collector of design objects from the beginning of the 20th century. he transferred his passions to his son Vanja, who in 2008 graduated from the Design studies at the Faculty of Architecture. And so Paravan was born as the next logical step of family work, knowledge and desires.
When designing products, Vanja remains aware of tradition and uses classical forms, placing them in a modern context and creating a recognizable visual language. His inspiration is rooted in the history of design, especially ART DECO, the Memphis Group, the Wiener Verkstatte...and it develops in the exploration of possibilities and the implementation of designs and patterns in the present. Constantly searching for new, aesthetic and functional forms.
He pours his thoughts, soul, ideas and values into his products according to the principle of simplicity and accessibility. With a characteristic and recognizable expression, ecological materials, small series, colors, emotions and practicality, he built an identity and a contemporary expression.

2020.
Paravan is developing and opening its doors in a new space at Martićeva 4. The motivation (desire) is to offer people a multifunctional space that will become a point of reference for lovers of historical design as well as people who follow contemporary design. A place that gathers all admirers of beauty, playfulness and refined sensibility.

It seems to me that we all sometimes lack a little color and play, no matter how old we are or what kind of work we do. It has been scientifically proven that the environment and space we live in affects our thoughts, mood and actions consciously or subconsciously. I became aware of how playful graphics, play of shapes and bright colors can easily make people smile (including myself!) and wished for more such things around me. By concretizing the need, I realized that I want to work on products that we use every day, which must be simple and practical. In the process from idea to production, I realized that it must be about hand-made products, made of ecological materials, which resulted in high quality. These are smaller batches of each product, which allows constant quality, but also the possibility of replenishing the product. All this resulted in items such as umbrella boxes, newspaper stands, mirrors, coffee tables, table lamps, napkin stands, bookends and others that connect innovative and distinctive design conceived on the synergy of graphic and product design

An idea was born, and from the idea a concept, and from the concept – Paravan.
