Description

Eugen Feller was born on January 26, 1942 in Split, but since 1945 he has been living in Zagreb, where his family is from. He is self-taught, and he became interested in painting at a young age, so he has been exhibiting since 1959. Working in the early sixties, Malampia, paintings of relief surfaces and monochrome structures, he established himself, along with Ivo Gattin, as the most important and radical representative of informality in Croatian painting. In the later period, he was close to minimalism and geometric abstraction, and he continues to explore versions of these vocations to this day. Since 1969, he has lived in Italy, in the town of Sestri Levante near Genoa, and in 2000 he returned to Zagreb. In addition to painting, he deals with objects, drawing and graphics. In 2014, HTV filmed and occasionally broadcasts the TV film Contemporaries - Eugen Feller. His works are in many museums, galleries and private collections. He has received multiple awards for his work, and in 2017 he was awarded the Vladimir Nazor Lifetime Achievement Award. He lives and works in Zagreb.
