Description

Edo Murtić (Velika Pisanica, May 4, 1921 – Zagreb, January 2, 2005), Croatian painter, graphic designer, theater set designer, academician.

He was born in Velika Pisanica near Bjelovar. In 1925, his family moved to Zagreb, where he attended primary and secondary school. He studied at the Academy of Applied Arts. His professors were Petar Dobrović and Ljubo Babić.
He had his first solo exhibition in Zagreb in 1935. Since 1941, he has participated in II. world war, and in 1943 he joined the resistance movement against the fascists. He traveled a lot abroad, especially to France, the USA and Italy. His works have received international recognition.
He has had 150 solo and around 300 group exhibitions on all continents. His works are present in most excellent private and public collections around the world. He also worked on theater scenography, murals and mosaics.
He was a member of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts (HAZU) and the Croatian Helsinki Committee (HHO). He mostly lived in Zagreb and Vrsar. He was declared an honorary citizen of the city of Bjelovar. He died in Zagreb
